How to search for Chinese companies
Searching for company registration details in China has been a major topic of discussion in international trade during the last years. In the past there were several different websites from each province and each one offered company registration search services. From October 2014 the mentioned central system was in production and it allows searching for private companies in all mainland China. Some of the local websites are still live and allow company searches but the trend is to transition to the new central system.
Now, as of 2025 there is a China company registration search website where anyone can conduct company searches in Chinese.
China company searches in English
There is no official Chinese company registration search in English language. We offer this service as a convenient way to check if a chinese company is legitimate. Our team is specialized in business and corporate law to make the search reports accurate while giving a clear insight of the Chinese company. Although there is interest from the Chinese authorities to develop a English company search system there are no announced plans to start this project. Official sources agree that it would improve international trade with China PRC including exports and imports but there are several limitations including the fact that the official name of Chinese entities is in Chinese.
How to verify a Chinese company
The report is a company verification from the official China company registry system. Chinese companies have to file their Annual Report covering a natural year within 6 months of the next year. Other These reports are filed by certified accountant firms and contain essential company information, contact details, shareholding details and financials. In most cases financials are not disclosed to the public.
In addition, chinese entities have to report other changes or modifications within 20 business days. These changes include secured loans and mortgages, capital contributions, equity changes, administrative sanctions and changes in business license. Government bodies reporting information to the system have 7 business days to file the information and it has to be published within 20 business days.
Timescale
The China company search report is delivered within one business day. However, there are many company checks delivered in shorter timescale. Please note that depending on the company these documents can have up to 50 pages or more and in these cases delivery time would be longer.

Companies in mainland China can show their licenses on request, and stores display them to prove the company is legitimate.

Company number verification
A company number in Mainland China has 18 digits and it's issued by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC), State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) or other government bodies depending on the type of entity and when it was incorporated. It's composed mostly of numbers but it may contain letters as well. This number is displayed on the company's business license and certificates and it has several English names depending on the translation:
- USCI
- Unified Social Credit Identifier or Unified Social Credit Indicator
- USCC
- Unified Social Credit Code
- USCN
- Unified Social Credit Number
- CBRN
- Chinese Business Registration Number
- TIN
- Tax Identification Number
The number was 15 digits long before October 2015 but rapid increase on company incorporations led the authorities to upgrade the system to a 18 digit number to allow more flexibility. Also the need of other formats and issuers such as the free trade zones urged the change.
Here's an explanation of the different meaning of each section of the company number

---|---|---|
1 | Register Authority | In most cases this is 9 which means the SAIC. Other values may appear in the future |
2 | Entity type | A code representing the entity type. Examples of possible types are Joint Ventures (JV), Representative Office, State-Owned Enterprise (SOE), Private Enterprise, Sole Trader, Professional Farmer, Wholly Foreign-Owned Enterprises (WFOE) |
3-8 | Region code | Administrative division code. Begins with 1 for North China, 2 for Northeast China, 3 for East China, 4 for South Central China, 5 for Southwest China and 6 for Northwest China. Example: 110000 for Beijing municipality |
9-17 | Organization code | This is the organization code issued to the entity when it's incorporated. |
18 | Control check | This number or letter (similar to the one present in bank account numbers) validates that the whole number is correct using a special algorithm and prevents transcription errors. |
